Hot Tub Water Testing Guide

Understanding Hot Tub Water Testing

Follow this clear, step-by-step guide to learn exactly how to test your hot tub water using the Pool Tester device for safe and sparkling results.

Always test the Hot Tub water before using it, or at two intervals each day.

Step One: Prepare Your Testing Kit

Begin by gathering your Pool Tester, remove the Lid and collect a sample of water from your hot tub.

Step Two: Conduct the Water Test

Add the PHP reagent tablet to the pH side, add the DPD1 reagent tablet to the Cl side. Replace the tester Lid and shake gently to dissolve the tablets.

Step Three: Interpret, Record and Adjust

Check the Colour against the scale, record the result on the Daily Test Sheet provided and adjust your hot tub chemicals as needed.

See the video below for a step, by step user guide.

Check Water Level

Regularly checking and maintaining the correct water level helps ensure optimal performance and enjoyment of the Hot Tub.

To ensure that the water level in the Hot Tub is at the correct level before and after use:

  • Push the black floating vane weir down into the filter housing until it touches the base.
  • If half of the weir is submerged, the spa level is correct.
  • If the water level is low, add clean water until half of the weir is submerged.

Adjusting the pH or Chlorine Levels after Testing

Follow this clear, step-by-step guide to learn exactly how to adjust your hot tub water using the Water Care Kit provided.

NEVER add chemicals to the water when there are bathers in the Hot Tub.

Always allow 15mins after adding chemicals before anyone uses the Hot Tub.

pH High or Low

  • Remove the black or steel filter guard.
  • Set the Hot Tub Pump on HIGH.
  • Then, using the LARGE spoon in the Water Care Kit add ONE level spoon of either pH Increaser to raise the pH level above 7.0 or pH Reducer to lower pH the level below 7.8.
  • Add directly to the filter housing, leave the pumps on high for 15min to allow the chemical to circulate.
  • Refit the filter guard
  • Test again after 15 min and adjust your hot tub chemicals as needed.

Low Chlorine

  • Remove the black or steel filter guard.
  • Set the Hot Tub Pump on HIGH.
  • Then, using the SMALL spoon in the Water Care Kit add one level spoon of the Chlorine Granules to raise the level to between 3.0 – 5.0.
  • Add directly to the filter housing, leave the pumps on high for 15min to allow the chemical to circulate.
  • Refit the filter guard
  • Test again after 15 min and adjust your hot tub chemicals as needed.

Foamy Water

If your water becomes very foamy, add a few drops of FOAM AWAY directly to the filter housing.

Always add chemicals in single doses, and retest after 15min before adding more.

NEVER add two chemicals at the same time, always wait, retest and adjust again if needed.
